Thesis: Mockups

Displayed below are several mockups from my thesis project, an iPad app to help intermediate learners of Japanese gain mastery of kanji, one of the writing systems used in the language.

Story

Instructions are provided in the top right panel, the narrative text is on the top left, and kanji interactions are on the bottom right.  The kanji interactions allowed for on this panel are the selection of kanji for activation and selection of activated kanji to be used in the story.  Illustrations will be added to the final version as scaffolding for learners.   

Kanji information

The kanji information screen is the simplest and least interactive of all screens in the app.  This screen is required to introduce the necessary components of a kanji word.  Learners are shown the orthographic, semantic, and phonetic information necessary for mastery of the word and component kanji.  After reviewing the information, learners can either proceed to the next screen or return to the story screen.

Two more screens, one for kanji construction and a multiple choice screen will be featured in the final prototype.
